Did u know that u can check your health
in a supermarket!? Like how handy is that!
Luckily I. perhaps a doctor to be, was there
to help Pierre to set everything perfectly
for him so he would get just the right results :))
#PregnancyTest
Yess you got it right! We had this another kind of break and EF had ordered pizza for everyone! Not bad when you think it´s the 1st day of school... not bad at all! We also had a chance to buy US sim cards if we hadn´t already got them from our home countries. Well I had done that which led to a fact that I  didn´t have to concentrate to anything else except fighting for my pizza slice!

Then I remembered that the previous day I had had problems with activating the sim card online so I went to ask for help from a member of EF Staff. I was advised to call to service numbers of that phone operator. Well I hadn´t even thought about that and a bit nervously I made a call. It turned to be a bit awkward ´cause the connection wasn´t that good so almost the every other word I said to phone was ´what?´. "Your sim card has unfortunately been expired" SAY WHAAT!?

And that´s how my day got ruined again for 5 minutes.

Well I talked to Antti and I decided that I had to buy a sim card from there. Me and Sini walked to the tables where these 2 guys sold sim cards. They  had 4 kinds of cards with them all with different features like unlimited calls to somewhere and unlimited internet etc. I bought one with 5GB of internet and something else in it and of course I hadn´t realized to take any cash with me. Fortunately that wasn´t a problem cause I was able to pay with a card too. Well that was what I thought. They took my card and wrote the things they needed down and gave everything back. They were really really nice and they were amazed by the leather back cover of my phone. I was told that I should get a message when my card was activated within 2 hours. Well it didn´t happen and when I got to the bus stop I asked my hostdad if we could go to phone shop on the other side of the road. In the shop they told me that the card was still empty and it wasn´t activated and that they wouldn´t be able to do anything. The only thing was to find those guys who sold the cards. So when we got home I called EF and heard that other students had had this same problem. Apparently foreign cards weren´t accepted in this company but my hostdad saved me and gave the number of his card so my sim card would work! I even remembered to pay him back! A really big thanks to Tim!

A sleeping beauty beast
On our way we visited the supermarket. I was told that normally my hostfamily goes to the supermarket only once in a week so this was exceptional. So then this happened: I guess I was tired and I wasn´t really thinking. Pierre was kind of leaning above the shopping cart and I almost randomly slapped his ass. I have no idea why... maybe cause I sometimes do it to one of my friend but anyways my brain luckily stopped me. My hand was in the middle of that slap move and then I was like "Wait what are you doing Jaakko!? Don´t you make yourself look like an idiot!". So I desperately tried to hide that slap move as a stretching kind of a thing. I really hope that nobody noticed me doing that cause I might have looked like a runaway from some nearby asylum.

There were these people, next to the cashiers, who  packed your shopping for you. There was this girl who was quite OK looking and she was packing groceries of some woman´s. Then Pierre asked like "Do u have girls like that in Finland?" meaning if we had people who pack the things for us. But what I thought he meant was like do we have girls who look like that in Finland. I almost started to waffle something like "Well certainly not in my town (no offence) also Finnish girls are not often that dark and blah blah.." But thank God he refined his question and said "Do they pack your shopping". I immediately shut my mouth and formed a new answer in my head.

Continuing the day 2

Me and Oona = 2/3 of tyylilyylit
So after hearing the rules and meeting with our country-leader we were shared to different groups and we moved to smaller where our teachers waited. There were 2 classes combined in my group cause one teacher was still on holiday or something. Anyways we went into the classroom and sat in the tables by the country. Obviously the next thing our teacher did was that he separated us.

If I remember right I sat in the same table with Andrea, Weiwei, Marc and Iida and some Finnish girl. We started to play a game and it went like this:  Each one of us got a card with a text like "Madonna" or "Fast and Furious" and we had to go around the classroom and explain the thing in our cards to people we haven´t talked to yet. When you got the world right you needed to change cards with each other and so that game went on and on until we needed to stop. Stop because it was break time!

Tried to teach some basics of Finnish..
On the break we were just about to chill under the sun until we heard a voice saying "All Finns get into the shades! Finnish people under the tree or something!!". It was our country leader Antti. Some of us were a bit annoyed cause one of those things why we chose California was the sun! But then again maybe Antti was right... I mean we maybe aren´t that tough against the sun as people from Southern Europe... Not saying that Finns aren´t tough but just stating that after all it was our first day there and if the teacher would have asked who forgot to apply some sunscreen I would have had to raise my hand. But we didn´t listen to him very long. We started to wonder around the parking area.

I had 2 dreams which I wanted to fulfill during my time in California. The 1st one was to find blue ice cream and eat it and the 2nd one was that somebody would carry me piggyback. I had made a deal with Oona about the 2nd dream (the piggyback thing) and now it came true. I went to her and asked her if she can do it now and she agreed so we ended up running all over the parking area! It was cool and crazy! I mean how many of you have ridden piggyback in California in front of a church while people from France, Spain, Italy and Finland are watching you with the "WTF are you doing" -faces! I bet not many of you!  These are one of those "Once In a Lifetime" experiences that you´ll remember forever!

PS. Don´t mind those weird fruits... Just saw them at a supermarket later that day and wanted to take a photo...

... But somehow they thought Finnish is hard... weird!

PPS. I´m not a weirdo who photographs fruits in a market!

Ha! Gayyy!

So I was gonna write this post about my 2nd day in California but then I heard something not so nice and I decided to write about it.

So I just got to know that people have been gossiping behind my back... Or maybe not gossiping but saying things. And what they have said is kind of childish. So, I heard from many people that guys from certain countries have been wondering if I´m gay or not. And I was actually laughing when I heard that cause I mean really!? You are travelling 10 hours to the other side of the world and when you get there you will just wonder in your small groups if somebody is gay! I wouldn´t bother doing that when I have all California around me!

Another thing is that I do not care about people´s sexual orientations! We are living in the 21st century and the only thing you really have to remember is that if you are nice to me I´ll be nice to you. But if that question really bothered your minds so much you could have just asked me! But apparently some people just preferred to talk about it behind my back. Oh well go ahead then!

It´s just not that big part of our culture to talk about sex and/with girls all the time... It just doesn´t make you gay if you are not desperately trying to find a girl to kiss from a language course´s disco...

My point here is that you should never assume anything about the person by their looks or by the way they talk or anything else. I know it´s hard and I admit that I kinda "judge" people by the looks but I do not start talking behind their backs! Because that is how nasty and stupid rumors spread! There was 1 person that I thought that might be gay cause he was winking his eye and he had an earring. But hey 1. It´s really stupid to even think like I did just cause of those two things. 2. His sexual orientation is actually none of my business and 3. I didn´t start talking behind his back with my friends even though I had my suspicions.

Okay I was joking with a guy from somewhere about the "hot nights" with me and Pierre but still... You just gotta find the line between a joke and the truth.

And if you really are that eager to know the answer to that question come to ask me face2face
"If you´re talking behind my back, don´t forget that you´re in a great position to kiss my ass" -Kim, my amazing hostmum

The 2nd Day

I fell asleep almost immediately when I finally got in my bed  the previous night. I still couldn´t say that I was really lively on my first morning even though I was in the US.

I don´t remember the 2nd day that well but I guess I went to eat breakfast... cause that´s quite reasonable thing to do when you wake up. I ate those cereals we bought yesterday and drank (my favorite thing) lactose-free milk. The previous night when we were buying food from a market my hosts had asked me if I want milk and I was like "No no I´m fine I don´t really need milk" ... then I saw few shelves of a refrigerator filled with lactose-free milk. I checked if the prices are okay and not too expensive and shouted like "Umm wait a sec! I changed my mind! Can we take some lactose free milk??". I guess they were thinking like "okay this kid clearly doesn´t know what he wants"

So after breakfast we got dressed up and were ready to go to car and start the school day. Tim drove us (the "us" icludes me, Pierre, Marie and Iida/Lida) to the bus stop. The bus stop was located near the McDonald´s on Galena Ave and every morning we who came from Simi Valley waited for our bus there. Antti and Carol were our bus leaders. Antti usually hopped on the bus from the first stop and Carol from the second one.

This day was exceptional so it wasn´t like the other days. We traveled to a church called Holy Family Church or something and met there. We didn´t really have a school day. We just went through some rules and our country-leaders asked how the 1st night in the host family has been and what kind of families we have. The main things as presenting the extracurricular trips and activities (such as Disneyland and 6Flags Magic Mountain) and explaining the rules were in a big hall. I had heard the rules last year so I wasn´t really paying attention to them... I mean I knew how to behave myself so there wouldn´t be any problems right? RIGHT?? Well then this happened:
The EF guy swiped into a new slide which said this "We don´t accept clothing with inappropriate or insulting texts or prints". And there I was... Sitting almost in the front-row and wearing this shirt with a big text saying "Go Fuck Yourself". I immediately lapsed down on my seat and tried my best so he couldn´t see me.
